Biography

I’ve chosen to make my contemporary beaded pieces by going more slowly
the story began many years ago when I bought a fabulous necklace
that I loved until it could be worn no more. With that break and tumble of beads
onto the floor, an idea was born. What if I looked for something else that had
fallen on hard times and was no longer useable or loved?

The way forward started in thrift stores, estate sales and musty jewelry drawers
in friends and relative’s homes. There are so many ways to renew or reuse a
piece of jewelry, beads in particular, that I took some basic classes and began to
put things back together. The mid-century pearls that someone brought back
from Japan? Yes please. An old silvery bracelet that no longer latched? Yum.
You get the idea.

It’s with these kinds of raw materials supplemented with state of the art jewelry
wire, clasps and fittings that the new has emerged from the old. It’s such fun to
get a bunch of things together and have some inspiration from the color, texture
or feel of materials.

The pieces in this collection came from the process above, and of course a few
visits to those wonderful bead stores and gem shows!
